CURRENT EVENTS

Our End of the Year drive began Thanksgiving weekend. This year, 2012, holds much excitement for Cherokee Home as we begin a transitional living program for our older children and groundwork planning on campus to house more children who need our services. If you did not receive the mailer with details of the 2012 plans, contact us at chc@centex.net or call (325) 622-4201 and ask for Delton or Dan.

Cherokee Home for Children is currently seeking Christian couples interested in a career in Christian childcare. Houseparents must be faithful members of the Church of Christ, sound in the faith, able to teach children of all ages, and willing to be an active citizen in a small community setting. Most of all, applicants must have an abiding love for the Lord and a loving compassionate heart for children in need. Benefits include starting pay at $34,000 for couple, paid health insurance for the family, groceries, cable TV, internet service, retirement, sick leave, and professional training with continuing education, and 12 weeks respite time off. For more information about positions available, contact Cherokee Home at (325) 622-4201 or at chc@centex.net.

January 20th was the date for the San Saba Livestock Show. Thirteen of our children participated in the swine show and several others were part of the art show. Talli Morrison won the senior showmanship for swine. Her pig also placed 2nd in its class. Her sister, Tori, also placed 2nd in her class. In addition, our kids tallied up a fourth place, 3 fifth places, 1 sixth place, 1 eighth place, 2 ninth places, 1 tenth place, and 1 twelfth place. Congratulations to all of our winners!

The week of January 8-13 was filled with activities on campus during the annual visit from the Aggies for Christ. These students from Texas A&M spent a week of their semester break with us to assist in our FFA pig projects, cut wood, stuff envelopes, and other chores. In addition, the Aggies provided both children and adults with provocative Bible studies and devos. All on campus agreed this was the best visit ever!

On October 15th, Nettie Jean Randolph, executive assistant to the director, completed her 35th year at Cherokee Home. She has been a significant influence to all who are at the home, both staff and residents. She was recognized for her service with flowers and a gift at the annual Thanksgiving dinner. We love you, Nettie Jean!
